downsizing, restructuring or individuals who meet income guidelines

Everyone
can use the job search resources. To
learn how to use our job search resources, you can attend an orientation and
welcome. These meetings are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at
Job Search resources include:

Job Postings – located in the

Job Development database system - lets you match your
interest and skills to available jobs
·
Computer Lab –Internet access and printers available
for your job search activities
·
Postage, fax and copier - office necessities for your job search
·
Phones and desks - available with free long-distance
calling throughout

Coffee Talk Session - gives you the opportunity to
discuss job search topics with other members every Tuesday at
·
Management Networking Group - discuss issues unique
to job seekers in management positions every Monday at

Offers support from staff and members for a
successful job search experience

Helps you to schedule your time effectively

Restrooms are located outside the lunch room

Smoking area is located outside of the west doors

chocolate as well as a refrigerator, microwave, and vending machines

Your name tag must be worn at all times while
visiting the Center-it has been color coded to identify the services you are
utilizing

After using any of the resources, please return
materials and equipment to the correct location and leave your area as neat as
possible

Job Search Ready workshops – upon completion if you
have not obtained employment and need additional services you can request the
Career Workshop to explore additional possibilities.
Career Exploration Workshops – upon
completion you may proceed to Employability Enhancement workshops based on your
Career Development plan developed during your one-on-one Career Manager
appointment.
Job search assistance is available during and after each stage. Job search assistance includes access to computers, fax and copy machine, phones and postage for job search materials. Additionally, you may schedule appointments with the job placement staff.

Build a resume that interest employers.

Learn how to write attention-getting cover letters,
follow-up and marketing letters and get tips on preparing job applications.

o
Discover the secrets of interviewing successfully,
handling difficult questions, evaluating the job and negotiating salary and
benefits.

Introduction to the Internet
o
Learn to use internet search tools effectively,
create an email account and attach documents, register and post your resume on
job search web sites.

ABLE/GED Preparation
o
Update math, reading and writing skills for personal
enhancement or work towards completing your GED.

o
Upon passing your GED pretest, you will receive a
certificate that allows you to take the state administered GED test for free.

After attending
orientation you can enroll in the following workshops. While taking the workshops, you will have
plenty of time to send out résumés, schedule interviews and network.

Introduction to Computers
o
Introduces computer hardware and software. Designed
for individuals with limited experience on computers.

Introduction to Word 2000
o
Introduces basic word processing. Learn to create,
edit and print documents, set up pages, create tables, apply borders and
shading, use headers, footers and tabs.

12 hours
o
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers

Interpersonal Communications
o
Learn essential skills to be a better listener and
communicator. Listening is as important
as speaking.
o
4 hours

Job Retention Strategies Workshop
o
Learn to clarify the details of the job offer.
Prepare yourself for the first days on a new job and how to make a good first
impression.
o
3 hours
·
Career Workshop
o
Learn about your skills and the skills needed for
your career interests. This workshop presents information to help identify
career options and goals. Session covers skills review, goal setting, work
history evaluation and the development of employment plans.
o
Followed by individual meetings with career managers
and job placement specialist.
o
You will be notified of your eligibility for the
Career Workshop within seven days of submitting all of your information. At
that time, a staff member will contact you to schedule a start date.

Labor Market Information Workshop (LMI)
o
Understand the current and projected labor market as
well as the prevailing wage for occupations in this area by exploring several
key internet sites.

Assessment of reading and math skills to aid staff
members in providing additional services and referrals as needed.

Based on your Individual Plan for Employment developed during your one-on-one

Learn techniques to research and contact specific
industries, companies and geographical location. Prepare an action plan to
target the right job for you.
